Huge fan of the Gator Jam and I was looking for some that are off the radar. The ones I would consider outstanding(and obvious) are:

5/18/68
8/23/68
3/2/69
2/14/70
4/29/71

I guessing most of you know and love these...Im looking for some opinions on equally good ones off the beaten path...

Here are a couple more great "gator jams"

11/6/70 http://www.archive.org/details/gd70-11-06.aud.warner.17183.sbeok.shnf

8/4/67 http://www.archive.org/details/gd67-08-05.sbd.hanno.16753.sbeok.shnf

Whoops! I see someone beat me to 11/6/70! I guess you really should listen to it twice!
My favorite is probably 2/28/69 from the Fillmore West '69 box set.

cliff -

the 2/7/69 'gator' jam is one of the best ever! the way they move in and out of that china cat theme has to be heard to be believed...

here's two more of my favorites:

the 'bid you goodnight jam' in this one is particularly compelling:

Not to quibble....but does 2-14-70 count as a "Gator Jam", isn't it just Caution without any Alligator jamming?
And I might give the nod to 2-28-69 over 3-2-69 for the Gator Jam (maybe)...though it's hardly off the beaten path, and 3-2 definitely wanders around the swamp more.

Anyway, these are some other worthy Gator Jams -

2/28 is my favorite show, but the 3/2 Gator definately takes the cake in my book..I ve given both shows many full listens and they are both great, but as far as Alligator, 3/2 does it for me.

Also many suggestions here...Excellent. Thanks very much, Ill be giving all of thesse a listen..

Behold, the alligator jam of all alligator jams:

I have never heard a gator jam that beat this one. It's raw, clean, heroic, and mysterious, and beats the crap out of most others. This is fantastic evidence of why this year is by far my favorite for live dead.

Phew... it wasn't just me. Although my mind went to this show instead (so the years were way off. If you've never heard it you must listen to the Shakedown -> Franklins it is unique

LOL, me too. That's what I thought of, and then I thought of this one:

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1974-06-23.sbd.matrix-sb21b.chappell.83489.flac16

and figured maybe there were, ya know, a whole bunch of great Florida shows known as "gators" or something, but which I'd never heard of ...

I guess I should have said Alligator>Jam....I can see how everyone thought it was like a Tiger Jam or Tighten uP Jam or something. I was just looking for some excellent versions of Alligator that I have not heard, which are generally accompianied by >Drums>Jam of some sort..

This one is pretty great:

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1969-12-31.sbd.miller.95420.sbeok.flac16

Starts sloppy (compared with, say, the super-tight 8/5/67) but turns into a jam of legendary proportions.
